Big Give began in 2010 as an act of generosity from Open Life to Liberty Ridge Elementary School families with 150 meals.  The Bonney Lake Food Bank saw the potential of bringing all of the food provision events together as one, so in 2011 the Big Give took on a community wide target. In 2012 the Food Bank was unable to provide meals during the Thanksgiving Season and invited Open Life to take the lead in coordinating a meal provision moment that took on a community collaborative feel with the new partnership of Walmart and dozens of sponsors, as well as the support of the counseling departments in the Sumner School District on the Plateau. In 2013 the event spread to Sumner for their first Big Give and now we continue with two locations.

Objective

Make sure every economically challenged family has the opportunity to enjoy an excellent full Thanksgiving Meal. Currently this represents the students in the Sumner School District Schools, some form Whiter River School District as well as those who use the Bonney Lake and Sumner Food Banks (approx. 1000 families and 2,000 people).

Behind The Big Give

Let’s face it, times are tough.  So the community is coming together to do something to meet the need for those hit the hardest through the Big Give.

Open Life has coordinated the generous partnerships with local churches, businesses, non-profits, and schools – we are making a difference in our community TOGETHER!

Volunteer for this event!

 

In 2014 we set a new record for volunteers with over 500 who served at our two locations to serve people who came for a meal.  This event just resonates and feels right, so come and lead in this effort to coordinate our community as they come and serve people well.
